As a painter, graphic artist and art historian, he combines artistic practice with theoretical inquiry, developing a visual language in which painterly gestures, structured colour fields and thoughtful references to art history intertwine. Taking the Austrian art scene of the second half of the 20th century as his starting point, he engages with international influences from abstraction and realism without allowing himself to be confined to any single stylistic direction. His works are characterised by expressive colour schemes, dynamic lines and, in many cases, large-format canvases, which point to an intense preoccupation with the materiality of colour and surface. Fischer thus occupies a place within the context of contemporary painting, in which traditional genres such as landscape, the figure and abstract compositions are openly interwoven.
