Austrian graphic artist, illustrator, writer and publisher of the 20th century. Born in Vienna in 1927, he studied philosophy, German and English, was a secondary school teacher at the Hernalser Gymnasium and worked as a printer and collector of graphic art under the pseudonym Hieronymus Zyx. After serving in the war from 1943 to 1945, he lived in Perchtoldsdorf from 1976 and later in Eichgraben in the Vienna Woods, where he published works such as *Mond im kleinen Bären* (*Moon in the Little Bear*, 1979) and organised exhibitions in Lower Austria. Fitzbauer created satirical riddle poems, drawings and prints featuring absurdly cheerful yet critical motifs, often in colourful reading and picture books; he was the recipient of the Lower Austria Culture Prize.
