Heinz Friedrich was a prominent German painter and woodcut artist. He is regarded as a leading exponent of expressive realism. From 1950 onwards, he worked as a freelance artist. For a time, he worked as a stage designer in Heidelberg. From 1968, he devoted himself intensively to colour woodcuts and joined the international woodcut association ‘Xylon’ in 1970.
