Hermann Geiseler* (Hamburg 1903 – 1975 Munich) Greek island oil on canvas 70 x 100 cm Veros estate stamp ESTIMATE °€ 400 – € 800 STARTING PRICE °€ 400 The German Modernist landscape painter Hermann Geiseler was a student of Adolf Schinnerer in Munich. He was influenced by van Gogh and Kokoschka and won the Dürer Prize awarded by the City of Nuremberg in 1930. In 1948, he was a founding member of the ‘Seerosenkreis’ in Munich, representing the writers’ side, alongside Peter Paul Althaus (1892–1965). The ‘Seerosenkreis’ was a regulars’ table of visual artists and writers at the Schwabing bar ‘Seerose’, which Ernst Hoferichter described as the ‘greenhouse of poetry’. A collective exhibition of his works was organised in 1952 by the Schöninger gallery in Munich. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price comprises the highest bid plus the buyer’s premium, VAT and, where applicable, the artists’ resale rights fee and platform fee. In the case of standard taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The statutory VAT of 13 per cent (20 per cent for photographs) is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer’s premium and the platform fee. The buyer’s premium amounts to 28 per cent in the case of differential taxation. VAT is included in the differential taxation.
