The German Modernist landscape painter Hermann Geiseler was a student of Adolf Schinnerer in Munich. He was influenced by van Gogh and Kokoschka and won the Dürer Prize awarded by the City of Nuremberg in 1930. In 1948, he was a founding member of the ‘Seerosenkreis’ in Munich, representing the writers’ side, alongside Peter Paul Althaus (1892–1965). The ‘Seerosenkreis’ was a regulars’ table of visual artists and writers at the Schwabing bar ‘Seerose’, which Ernst Hoferichter described as the ‘greenhouse of poetry’. A collective exhibition of his works was organised in 1952 by the Schöninger gallery in Munich.
