Georg Jung* (Salzburg 1899 – 1957 Vienna) Colour dramaturgy oil on foil, 33 x 38 cm ESTIMATE € 1,000 – € 2,000 STARTING PRICE € 1,000 Painter, graphic artist, interior designer and fresco artist – mythological subjects, religious paintings, portraits, landscapes; initially expressive depictions; from around 1927/1928, New Objectivist tendencies; and after the Second World War, predominantly abstract colour experiments (colour dramaturgies); from around 1959, a focus on mobile image objects (Colormobil). After completing secondary school in Salzburg, he studied philosophy and medicine in Vienna (no degree); simultaneously, he attended a life drawing course at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna; otherwise self-taught. He undertook study trips to Germany, Italy and France. In 1923, he took part in the Vienna Secession; in 1925, he held a solo exhibition at the Galerie H. Goltz in Munich. 1924–1938: member of the Hagenbund; 1934–1935: design of postage stamps (national costume series and airmail series); from 1935 to 1939, following his father’s death, he ran his parents’ business in Salzburg (Hotel de l’Europe), which he decorated with furniture and frescoes of his own design. He also created further frescoes at the main library of the University of Salzburg. 1940–1945: military service; from 1942, the NSDAP banned him from exhibiting. 1945–1952: member of the Vienna Secession. Also engaged in literary activities (short stories; from the posthumous manuscript *Wir sechs* – ‘The Six of Us’). His works are held in the collections of the Belvedere, the Albertina, the Museum der Moderne Salzburg, the Wien Museum and others. He has a grave of honour in the Salzburg Municipal Cemetery.
