Martinz ESTIMATE €50 – €100 STARTING PRICE €50 Fritz Martinz (Innichen 1924 – 2002 Vienna) was an Austrian painter, graphic artist and art educator associated with the post-war modernist movement. Born on 23 June 1924 in Innichen (South Tyrol), he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1946 to 1951 under Herbert Boeckl (Master’s Prize 1950). From 1952 onwards, he took part in exhibitions at the Vienna Secession and the Künstlerhaus (Artists’ House). From 1962 to 1989, he taught as a professor of painting at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna. He was awarded the City of Vienna Prize in 1968 and the Honorary Prize of the State of Lower Austria in 1985. Martinz created expressive landscapes, portraits and figurative compositions using impasto, dynamic brushstrokes and Cubist-abstract forms, influenced by Boeckl and the South Tyrolean mountains. From the 1970s onwards, he produced luminous acrylic paintings characterised by rhythmic geometry and spiritual abstraction.
