After training as a precision mechanic, he studied commercial and illustrative design at the Vienna School of Applied Arts. During the Second World War, he served as a soldier on the Eastern Front. After the war, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under Sergius Pauser and Herbert Boeckl. In 1947, he was a founding member of the Art Club. He undertook many inspirational journeys and took part in numerous international exhibitions, including the 1958 World Exhibition in Brussels. His acquaintances included Ernst Fuchs, Ingeborg Bachmann, Friedensreich Hundertwasser and, above all, his long-time friend Paul Flora. He is known for his diverse body of work in graphic art, literature and painting.
