Hans Orlowski* (Insterburg 1894 – 1967 Berlin) Investigator woodcut on paper, 21.5 x 16 cm signed Orlowski, accompanied by a poem ESTIMATE °€ 100 – € 200 STARTING PRICE €100 Hans Otto Orlowski was a prominent 20th-century German painter and woodcut artist. He gained widespread recognition—particularly for his expressive woodcuts and illustrations, as well as for his long tenure as a professor of art in Berlin. From 1922, he taught at the School of Arts and Crafts in Berlin-Charlottenburg, where he was appointed professor in 1931. During the Nazi era, some of his work was classified as ‘degenerate’ and destroyed, although he was permitted to continue exhibiting subject to certain restrictions. From 1945, he headed the class for mural and glass painting at the Berlin University of the Arts (Hochschule für Bildende Künste Berlin). Further artists and styles: Expressionism, Berlin Art Prize, Berlin painters, woodcut. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price comprises the highest bid plus the buyer’s premium, VAT and, where applicable, the artists’ resale rights fee and platform fee. In the case of standard taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid.
