Wolfgang Paalen* (Vienna 1905 – 1959 Taxco) Set of 2 etchings etching on paper, 18 x 12 cm ESTIMATE € 200 – € 300 STARTING PRICE € 200 Wolfgang Paalen was an influential Austrian-Mexican painter, sculptor and art philosopher. He is regarded as the driving force behind Viennese Modernism within the Parisian Surrealist movement. In 1939, Paalen emigrated to Mexico at the invitation of Frida Kahlo. In Mexico City, he founded the art magazine *Dyn* in 1942, in which he temporarily broke with Breton’s strict Surrealist dogmas and paved the way for the emerging American Abstract Expressionism. Other artists and terms: André Breton, fumage technique, Marcel Duchamp, Man Ray, Salvador Dalí, Exposition Internationale du Surréalisme, Frida Kahlo PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price comprises the highest bid plus the buyer’s premium, VAT and, where applicable, the artists’ resale rights fee and platform fee. In the case of standard taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid.
