Rosa Pohnert-Resch was an Austrian painter and graphic artist of the late Art Nouveau and Viennese Modernist periods, specialising in portraits and interiors. Born in Bregenz in 1886, the daughter of an industrialist, she studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts from 1905 to 1910 under Koloman Moser and A. von Stark. From 1912 onwards, she took part in exhibitions organised by the Vienna Secession, was a member of the Hagenbund, and from 1920 created portraits of prominent figures as well as decorative works for villas in Vorarlberg. Pohnert-Resch painted delicate portraits, floral still lifes and figurative scenes featuring decorative ornamentation, flowing lines and subtle Art Nouveau colours, influenced by the Wiener Werkstätte, the Klimt circle and the Vorarlberg vernacular style. Her pastels, watercolours and oil paintings are characterised by elegant modelling and harmonious composition. Further artists and styles: Koloman Moser, A. von Stark, Stark, Vienna Secession, Hagenbund, Wiener Werkstätte, Women in Viennese Modernism, Vorarlberg Art Nouveau, 20th-century portrait art
