Born in Stuttgart in 1941, the son of an engineer, he studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart from 1961 to 1967 under Rudolf Müller and Günter Behnisch. From 1970 onwards, he took part in exhibitions at the Stuttgart Art Gallery, worked as a freelance artist in the Swabian metropolitan region, and from 1980 created illustrations and prints for magazines and books. Sammet paints street scenes, interiors and portraits with precise lines, understated lighting and keen observation, influenced by New Objectivity, Swabian Realism and contemporary photography. His oil paintings, watercolours, etchings and lithographs are characterised by clear composition and an everyday poetry.
