Fritz Silberbauer* (Leibnitz 1883 – 1974 Graz) Garden monotype on paper, 29 x 20.4 cm signed ‘Sil’, inscribed ‘Monotype’ ESTIMATE €100 – €200 STARTING PRICE €100 Fritz Silberbauer was a prominent Austrian painter, graphic artist and fresco artist. During the interwar period, he was a central figure in Styrian modern art. After completing an apprenticeship as a lithographer, he studied at the State Art School in Graz, the School of Applied Arts in Dresden and the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 1923, together with Wilhelm Thöny and Alfred Wickenburg, he founded the Graz Secession. In doing so, he exerted a decisive influence on the Styrian avant-garde.
