Erich Steininger was an Austrian artist. He studied from 1963 to 1970 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Maximilian Melcher. In 1995, he took up a visiting professorship at the academy. As an honour from the State of Lower Austria, he received the State of Lower Austria Appreciation Prize for his works, which he exhibited in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. In 2010, he was awarded the Jakob Prandtauer Prize for Science and Art by the city of St. Pölten. From 1995 to 2009, Steininger served as president of the regional association of Lower Austrian art associations and as director of the Documentation Centre for Modern Art in St. Pölten.
