Linde Waber is an Austrian painter and graphic artist associated with the Viennese post-war modernist movement, specialising in abstract compositions, reliefs and spatial works. Born in Zwettl in 1940, the daughter of a teacher, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1960 to 1966 under Maximilian Melcher and Rudolf Hausner. From 1970 onwards, she took part in exhibitions organised by the Vienna Secession, and from 1975 she worked as a freelance artist in the Waldviertel region. She also taught as a guest lecturer at the HTL (Higher Technical Institute) and, from 1980 onwards, created large-format wall objects and prints. Waber paints intensely coloured acrylic surfaces, structural reliefs and mixed-media compositions characterised by dynamic gestures, material presence and abstract emotionality, influenced by Viennese Actionism, Lyrical Informel and the landscape of the Waldviertel region. Her work includes acrylic on canvas, wooden reliefs and screen prints characterised by rhythmic movement and tactile intensity.
