Felix Waske* (born 1942 in Vienna) Sheet 11, 1982 etching on paper, 29.8 x 25 cm signed Felix Waske, dated 82 numbered 1/2, inscribed on the plate: Blatt 11 ESTIMATE €60 – €100 STARTING PRICE €60 Felix Waske is an Austrian painter and graphic artist associated with the Viennese post-war modernist movement, specialising in portraits, figurative compositions and sacred motifs. Born in Vienna in 1942, the son of an architect, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1962 to 1968 under Rudolf Hausner and Wolfgang Hutter. From 1975 onwards, he took part in exhibitions organised by the Vienna Secession, and from 1980 he worked as a freelance artist in Vienna. He also taught as a visiting professor at the HTL (Higher Technical Institute) and, from 1990, created altarpieces and murals for Viennese churches. Waske paints large-scale groups of figures, religious scenes and interiors using impasto, expressive distortion and psychological tension, influenced by the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism, contemporary Expressionism and sacred iconography. His oil paintings, watercolours and mixed-media works are characterised by dynamic composition and spiritual intensity.
