Karl Jetzinger was an Austrian sculptor of the 20th century, a leading figure of modernism after 1950. After training as a carpenter, he increasingly focused on sculpture from 1950 onwards. After half a year, he discontinued his studies in sculpture under Hans Knesl at the Academy of Applied Arts due to financial difficulties. From 1961, he worked as a freelance artist and took part in exhibitions. Many of his figures depict young people and children, reflecting memories of his own childhood. His works are characterised by simplicity and introspection; he created many sculptures for churches in Vienna.
