Richard Placht was an Austrian sculptor and medallist. Placht studied at schools of applied arts and academic art schools in Bohemia and Prague, and specialised early on in small-scale sculptural works and medallic art. He later worked in Vienna, where he made a name for himself as a medallist and was admitted to the membership register of the Vienna Künstlerhaus in 1908. His work comprises primarily portrait and commemorative medals, as well as awards and other numismatic pieces. Richard Placht belongs to that generation of Austrian artists who worked at the intersection of late Impressionism, the Arts and Crafts movement, and applied sculpture. Further artists and styles: Josef Müller, Rudolf Schmidt
