Marie Egner was an Austrian painter of atmospheric realism or atmospheric impressionism. Alongside Tina Blau, Olga Wisinger-Florian and Broncia Koller-Pinell, she is regarded as one of the most important female artists in Austria around 1900 and became known primarily for her landscapes, still lifes of flowers, and watercolours and oil paintings created en plein air. She began her training in Graz, later studied in Düsseldorf, and settled in Vienna, where she established herself as a freelance artist. Egner exhibited internationally, including in London, Munich and at the 1900 Paris World’s Fair; in 1926, the Vienna Künstlerhaus dedicated a major solo exhibition to her, featuring approximately 180 works.
