Emil Fenzl was largely self-taught and exhibited his works on several occasions at the Vienna Künstlerhaus. As a member of the Vienna Cooperative of Visual Artists, he also belonged to its ‘Watercolourists’ Club’, an association of watercolour painters within the cooperative. His landscape paintings frequently depict river and mountain scenes, as well as views of villages and towns. Until 1910, he ran an ‘art publishing house’ in Vienna, for which he regularly placed advertisements in the Viennese satirical journals *Die Bombe*, *Das interessante Blatt* and *Wiener Caricaturen*. In these advertisements, he promoted, amongst other things, “artistically executed nude and model studies from life” as well as “finely coloured photographs”.
