Marianne Fieglhuber-Gutscher* (Vienna 1886 – 1978 Graz) Violinist etching on paper, 24.7 x 19.6 cm signed M. Fieglhuber-Gutscher, titled ‘Der Geiger’ illustrated in Fieglhuber-Gutscher, 2022, p. 24, no. 19. ESTIMATE °€ 150 – € 250 STARTING PRICE °€ 150 20th-century Austrian painter. A representative of the ‘forgotten generation’ of women artists and of expressive realism. From 1904, she trained at the Art School for Women and Girls in Vienna under Maximilian Kurzweil and Ludwig Michalek. She was a member of the etching club for Viennese women artists and took part in numerous exhibitions. She later took private painting lessons with Robin Christian Andersen and Egge Sturm-Skrla. Andersen and Sturm-Skrla maintained close contact with Anton Faistauer; Andersen was a member of the Neukunstgruppe centred around Egon Schiele, whilst Sturm-Skrla was part of the Hagenbund. She exhibited at the Künstlerhaus, the Vienna Secession and the New Hagenbund. Her style evolved from Art Nouveau to Colour Expressionism. She created landscapes and still lifes, as well as figure paintings and female nudes. Other artists and styles: Gustav Klimt, Carl Moll, Josef Hoffmann, Albert Paris Gütersloh, Matthias Herrmann, Lois Pregartbauer, Rudolf von Alt, Oskar Kokoschka, Albin Egger-Lienz, Koloman Moser, Richard Gerstl, Broncia Koller-Pinell, Anton Mahringer, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Karl Revy, Egon Schiele. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price comprises the highest bid plus the buyer’s premium, VAT and, where applicable, the artists’ resale rights fee and platform fee. In the case of standard taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax of 13% (20% for photographs) is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer’s premium and the platform fee.
