After 1900, he trained to become an art teacher at the Academy of Graphic Arts and Book Trade in Leipzig and at the School of Applied Arts and Crafts in Berlin. He also attended the Académie Julian in Paris. He subsequently worked as a teacher of drawing and arts and crafts in the state school system. After serving in the First World War, he continued his studies under Lovis Corinth from 1919 onwards. He was a member of the November Group and the Berlin Secession and exhibited regularly at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition. His works included portraits, street scenes and war scenes. In the 1920s, his work consisted mainly of illustrations, book designs and portfolios, most of which were published by Israel Ber Neumann and Paul Cassirer in Berlin. Other artists and terms: war painting, art education, Berlin artists, stage design PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price comprises the highest bid plus the buyer’s premium, VAT and, where applicable, the artists’ resale rights fee and platform fee. In the case of standard taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax of 13 per cent (20 per cent for photographs) is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer’s premium and the platform fee. The buyer’s premium amounts to 28 per cent in the case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
