Heinz Fuchs* (Berlin 1886 – 1961 Berlin) Painter and model oil on canvas, 100 x 150 cm ESTIMATE: €1,400 – €2,600 STARTING PRICE: €1,400 Heinz Fuchs was a German painter and graphic artist, best known for his work in the fields of modern and expressionist art. Fuchs studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Berlin from 1905 to 1907 and subsequently studied under Lovis Corinth from 1908 to 1910. He then continued his training from 1910 to 1912 at the Art School in Weimar, where he was a master student of Mackensen and later also taught. Between 1911 and 1913, he travelled through several European countries before returning to Berlin in 1913. From 1918, Fuchs was a member of the November Group and served on its working committee until 1922. In 1918–19, he produced particularly striking lithographs against the political backdrop of the early Weimar Republic. From 1930 to 1943, he taught at the former Reimann School in Berlin, alongside Hugo Häring, Fritsch and Muche. A large part of his early work was lost in the bombing raids of 1944. After the war, in 1947, he was appointed to a professorship at the Berlin University of the Arts, where he also set up a studio.
