In 1924, he became a member of the “Kunstgemeinschaft Wien” (Vienna Art Community). From 1932 to 1938, he was a member of the Hagenbund, and from 1946 a member of the Vienna Secession. In 1950, he also joined the Vienna Künstlerhaus. From 1938 to 1945, he was barred from practising his profession. In 1947, he was awarded the State Prize for Painting, and in 1952, the City of Vienna Prize. He was appointed professor in 1949.
