Josef Köpf (Vienna 1873 – 1953 Vienna) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist associated with the Viennese Modernist movement. Born on 24 January 1873 in Vienna, he trained at the Institute for Graphic Arts Training and Research and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Rudolf Bacher. He took part in exhibitions of the Vienna Secession from an early stage, worked as a portraitist and illustrator, was active during the interwar period, and gained recognition for his nuanced portraits. Köpf created portraits, genre paintings and vedute in a refined, Impressionist style characterised by soft brushwork, subtle lighting and a harmonious colour palette, influenced by the Vienna School and contemporary Secession artists.
