Müller’, numbered 1–10/76 ESTIMATE €500 – €800 STARTING PRICE €500 Hans Alexander Müller (Nordhausen 1888 – 1962, Connecticut) was a 20th-century German-American graphic artist, illustrator and woodcut artist. Born in Nordhausen in 1888, the son of a doctor, he studied at the Berlin Academy of Arts under Lovis Corinth. In 1936, he emigrated to the United States to escape Nazi persecution and, from 1940 onwards, lived in Norwalk, Connecticut. He worked for magazines such as *Vogue* and *The New Yorker*, illustrated books, and gained recognition through exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. Müller created fine woodcuts, etchings and drawings characterised by precise linework, subtle tonal values and dynamic composition. He specialised in cityscapes, portraits and everyday scenes, exhibiting Expressionist influences, North German clarity and American realism. His works are held in the Library of Congress and the Brooklyn Museum.
