19th-century Austrian landscape and animal painter and engraver. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Travelled to Switzerland and Italy. Worked in Florence and lived in Rome, where he supplied works for the exhibitions at St Anna’s. From 1831 to 1841, he worked in Moscow for Count Panin, painting the Kremlin and the residence of Prince Golitsyn. His two brothers, Johann Joseph and Ferdinand, as well as his son Carl, were also painters.
