Othmar Ruzicka was an Austrian painter who became best known as a portraitist and genre painter. He trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Julius Victor Berger, August Eisenmenger and Kasimir Pochwalski. His preferred subjects were scenes from South Moravia, Slovakia and Lower Austria; he frequently depicted the lives of the Moravian Croats. During the First World War, he was assigned as a war artist to the Imperial and Royal War Press Quarters and worked on the Balkan Front in Albania. From 1907, Ruzicka was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus, which dedicated a group exhibition to him in 1956. He received several awards for his work, including the Small Golden State Medal in 1913, the Drasche Prize in 1914, the Golden Laurel of the Vienna Künstlerhaus in 1947, and the title of professor in 1949.
