Emma Schlangenhausen (Hall in Tyrol 1882 – 1947 Großgmain) Set of 26 woodcuts woodcut on paper, 29.2 x 21.8 cm edited by Erich Fitzbauer ESTIMATE €100 – €200 STARTING PRICE €100 Emma Schlangenhausen was an Austrian painter and graphic artist associated with the Tyrolean Modernist movement, specialising in landscapes and portraits. Born in Tyrol in 1882, the daughter of a hotelier, she studied at the Salzburg School of Art from 1902 to 1908 under Carl Moll and Lovis Corinth. From 1912 onwards, she took part in exhibitions organised by the Salzburg Art Association, was a member of the Tyrolean Artists’ Guild, taught at the local school in Salzburg from 1925, and from 1930 created altarpieces and murals for churches in Tyrol and Salzburg. Schlangenhausen painted Alpine landscapes, floral compositions and portraits of women using impasto, soft brushwork and an Impressionist palette, influenced by the Vienna Secession, the Munich School and local Expressionism. Her oil paintings, watercolours and frescoes are characterised by harmonious composition and a regional warmth.
