Emil Witasek* (Guldenfurt near Nikolsburg 1900 – 1970 Vienna) Nude with a rose, 1924 oil on canvas, 67.5 x 113.5 cm signed E. Witasek, dated 1924 ESTIMATE €800 – €1,600 STARTING PRICE € 800 Emil Witasek was born in 1900 in Guldenfurt near Nikolsburg in Moravia. From 1914 to 1917 he attended the Technical School for the Clay Industry in Znojmo. In 1920, he studied for a year at the Vienna School of Applied Arts under Anton Hanak and then at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts. In 1925, Witasek enjoyed his first success with an exhibition at the Vienna Secession. After the Second World War, he moved to Hanover, where he worked as an art teacher in the 1960s. Witasek contributed as a sculptor to the simplified reconstruction of Hildesheim Cathedral (1950–1960). Other artists and styles: Expressionism, Secession, Herbert Boeckl, Alfons Walde, Anton Kolig, August Brömse, New Objectivity, Expressive Realism, nude painting, landscape painting, Hans Plank, Albin Egger-Lienz PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price comprises the highest bid plus the buyer’s premium, VAT and, where applicable, the artists’ resale rights fee and platform fee. In the case of standard taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The statutory sales tax of 13 per cent (20 per cent for photographs) is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer’s premium and the platform fee. The buyer’s premium amounts to 28 per cent in the case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
