Wolfgang Paalen* (Vienna 1905 – 1959 Taxco) Set of 2 etchings etching on paper, 18 x 12 cm ESTIMATE €300 – €400 STARTING PRICE €300 Wolfgang Paalen was an influential Austrian-Mexican painter, sculptor and art philosopher. He is regarded as the driving force behind Viennese Modernism within the Parisian Surrealist movement. In 1939, Paalen emigrated to Mexico at the invitation of Frida Kahlo. In Mexico City, he founded the art magazine *Dyn* in 1942, in which he temporarily broke with Breton’s strict Surrealist dogmas and paved the way for the emerging American Abstract Expressionism.
