Hermann Walenta* (Drosendorf 1923 – 2018 Riegersburg) Dove bronze, patinated 12 x 10 x 7 cm ESTIMATE °€ 400 – € 600 STARTING PRICE °€ 400 Hermann Walenta was an Austrian artist. He studied from 1940 to 1941 and from 1945 to 1948 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Josef Müller and Fritz Wotruba. From 1972, he lived and worked once again in his birthplace, Drosendorf. After completing his studies, Hermann Walenta worked as a freelance artist from 1948 onwards. He took part in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, such as the Venice Biennale in 1951 with graphic works and in 1956 with sculptural works. In 1957 he took part in the Antwerp Biennale and the Tokyo and Osaka Biennales. In 1960 he took part in the St Margarethen sculpture symposium, in 1970 in Lindabrunn, in 1970 in Krastal in Carinthia, in 1984 in Burgas in Bulgaria, in 1986 and 1987 in Nagyatád in Hungary, and in 1990 and 1991 in Lasa in South Tyrol. Walenta’s work has received several awards, including the City of Vienna’s Promotion Prize in 1958, the Promotion Prize in 1967 and the Lower Austria State Culture Prize in 1977; in 1980 with the gold medal and title of the Accademia d’Italia from the Accademia delle Arti e del Lavoro. His first solo exhibition took place in 1949 during the International University Weeks in Alpbach, after which he held solo exhibitions in Paris, Vienna, Munich, Venice, Salzburg, Paris and Palm Beach until 1993. His first participation in group exhibitions took place at the Venice Biennale in 1952, and further group exhibitions were held in Tokyo, New York, Monte Carlo, Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary and South Tyrol. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer’s premium, VAT and, where applicable, the artist’s resale rights fee and platform fee. In the case of standard taxation (marked °), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The statutory sales tax of 13 per cent (20 per cent for photographs) is added to the sum of the highest bid, the buyer’s premium and the platform fee.
