ZERO
Mack, Heinz
Untitled, from: Made in Silver. 1966. Silkscreen print in silver on lightweight Velin card. 64.5 x 50.7 cm. Signed, dated and marked ‘Probedruck’. - Slight crease marks in both upper corners; isolated, slight surface scuffing, particularly at the bottom left; on the reverse, along the left-hand edge, a trace of a former mounting; isolated, slight handling marks; overall in good condition and exceptionally fine. A magnificent, rich, monochromatic print of the full-format image.
Fulda-Kuhn 31 VI. – Proof print prior to the edition of just 22 copies. - Rare. Printed and published by Rottloff, Karlsruhe. - From the 8-part portfolio ‘Made in Silver’, whose works, featuring embossing, reliefs, metal foils and aluminium board, revolve around the theme of metallic silver. - Heinz Mack, the last surviving founding member of the ZERO group, explores the interplay of light, movement, materiality and serial structure in his artistic work of the 1960s. Within metal surfaces and grids, he finds a material from which he strips away the technically rigid stability and rigidity, transforming it – with the aid of light – into light, ephemeral phenomena. Rather than the materiality that typically determines the overall impression, it is the light that actively defines the expressive power; it dematerialises the subject and strips it of its representational quality. A visually metaphysical space emerges, enveloping the viewer in a light-kinetic artistic experience.
Silkscreen in silver on light-weight wove card. Signed, dated and labelled. In both upper corners, a slight crease mark; isolated, slight superficial abrasion, particularly on the lower left; on the reverse, a trace from previous mounting at the left margin; isolated slight handling marks; all in all, in good and impeccably fine condition. - Proof print prior to the edition of only 22 copies. - Rare. - Printed and published by Rottloff, Karlsruhe. - From the 8-part portfolio ‘Made in Silver’, in which works featuring embossing, reliefs, metal foils and aluminium cardboard explore the theme of silver. - Heinz Mack, the last surviving founding member of ZERO, explores the interplay of light, movement, materiality and serial structure in his body of work from the 1960s.
