Description
Concrete Art
Knoebel, Imi
3 works. Tür und Tor. From: Sequences. 1998. Each a colour silkscreen print with phosphorescent pigments or aquatint on Rives Velin. Each 40 x 50 cm. One sheet signed and numbered on the reverse. – Overall in very good condition. Magnificent prints of the minimalist, full-format compositions with a vibrantly fresh effect.
One of 60 copies. – Published by Edition Schellmann, Munich/New York. - Since engaging with the work of Kazimir Malevich, Imi Knoebel has consistently pursued a reduction to the elementary elements of painting, comprising form, colour and surface. This three-part work condenses this approach into a serial experimental arrangement: Two rectangles, which convey a latent representational quality through the title, are explored in varying constellations, their relationship to one another and to the picture plane played out in three stages. The use of phosphorescent pigments lends the rationally constructed pictorial structure a subtle luminosity.
