Concrete Art Siepmann, Heinrich Abstract Composition. 1961. Oil on canvas. 48 x 62 cm. Signed and dated on the reverse. In a shadow-joint frame. Another oil composition on the reverse. – The canvas is slightly wavy. Partially with slight craquelure. Overall, very good condition. An outstanding work with expressive contrasts. Ullrich 322. – Another image on the reverse. In the post-war period, Siepmann frequently painted over older works or used their reverse sides for new compositions. The earlier work on the reverse probably dates from the early 1950s. Numerous works with comparable motifs can be found from the period between 1949 and 1954. - Heinrich Siepmann is regarded as one of the leading figures of post-war German abstraction and was a co-founder of the Recklinghausen-based artists’ group ‘junger westen’. Building on an early representational work, he developed a clear, constructivist visual language in which geometric order, reduced form and finely balanced areas of colour come together to form harmonious compositions. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated on the reverse. Framed in a shadow-gap frame. Further oil painting on the reverse. - The canvas is slightly wavy. Some slight craquelure in places.
