German Post-War Kippenberger, Martin Italian plate. 1997. Porcelain with typographic relief. Diameter 26 cm. Monogrammed and dated in the casting. In original cardboard box with label bearing details of the work, numbered here. - Overall very good condition. One of 150 copies. - Published by Schellmann Edition, Munich/New York on the occasion of documenta X, Kassel 1997. - The white porcelain plate bears a circumferential relief inscription on its rim, quoting a menu featuring Italian cuisine: “Al dente – Rucola – Mozzarella – Tomate – Con – Spaghettini – Secco e Vino”. Kippenberger transposes this culinary banality into the context of art, thereby programmatically reversing the relationship between high and low culture. The plate was produced in 1997 to mark Documenta X and is thus one of the last works that Kippenberger authorised during his lifetime – he died that same year. Porcelain with a typographic relief.
