Description
East German Art
Glombitza, Günter
Nude Girl. 1973. Pencil drawing on vellum. 56 x 93.7 cm (57 x 94 cm). Signed, dated and titled. Drawn signature in the lower left-hand corner. - Some creases. Slightly yellowed. Traces of mounting all round on the reverse. Occasional small spots and slight handling marks. Overall in good condition. An excellent, very delicate drawing with a narrow margin.
Günter Glombitza studied at the Academy of Graphic Arts and Book Design in Leipzig from 1961 to 1966, under Bernhard Heisig, amongst others. Alongside painting and printmaking, drawing occupies an important place in his oeuvre. His drawing style is characterised by fine, often sparse linework, which does not fully define figures and scenes but captures them with a few, confidently placed contours and hatching. A characteristic feature is a quiet, concentrated visual effect that balances precise observation with free suggestion.
