On the reverse with work no.: Op. 132. – Manfred Martin the Elder, born in Leipzig in 1930, studied from 1948 to 1950 at the Academy of Graphic Arts and Book Art in Leipzig under Eberhard Strüning and Elisabeth Voigt. He occupies a special position within the Leipzig art scene, having turned early on to a constructive, concrete formal language. Characteristic features include geometric linework, rhythmic directional patterns and coloured areas of emphasis, which appear less strictly static and more dynamic and spatially dynamic. In this sense, *Tanz* exemplifies Martin’s fusion of constructive order and movement reminiscent of music.
