East German Art Müller, Wilhelm Constructive Exercise. 1965/1985. Mixed media with silverpoint on vellum. Each 21 x 30 cm. In original folder with slipcase. - Some slight surface wear. One sheet shows handling marks on the reverse. Partial, minimal wear to the corners. - Overall, very good condition. Magnificent works executed with great delicacy. Contains: Sheets 1–23: The individual elements with the interleaves: 4, 19, 20, 21. Sheets 24–30: Compositions featuring elements from the constructive exercise, as well as a final sheet. - Wilhelm Müller was a dentist by profession before turning to painting as a self-taught artist from 1961 onwards. His tuition with Hermann Glöckner proved decisive for his artistic development; it was under Glöckner’s influence that the ‘Constructive Exercises’ were created. In these works, he increasingly explores the geometric division of the picture plane. The compositions begin with a simple central line intersected by a diagonal, and develop into complex structures comprising several lines that divide the sheet in varying proportions.
