East German Art Schröter, Annette Blue Study. 1995. Oil on canvas. 40.5 x 50 cm. Monogrammed and dated. Titled, dated and signed on the reverse. Framed. – Partially showing minimal surface wear. Overall in very good condition. A magnificent, impasto work in a nuanced blue colour scheme. Annette Schröter, born in Meissen in 1956, studied under Bernhard Heisig at the Academy of Graphic Arts and Book Design in Leipzig from 1977 to 1982. She later held a professorship in painting and printmaking there herself. Characteristic of her early paintings is a thick, sometimes relief-like brushstroke, through which bodies, landscapes and spaces frequently oscillate between figuration and abstract composition. Later, Schröter consistently expanded her practice to include paper-cutting and cut-out techniques, with the reduction to line, plane and silhouette always playing a central role. Oil on canvas.
