Description
Austrian Post-War Hundertwasser, Friedensreich 10002 Nights Homo Humus Come Va How Do You Do. 1984 (begun 1982). Mixed media comprising photolithography and screen printing with metal foil embossing on vellum (with watermark). 69.5 x 50 cm. Signed ‘Dunkelbunt’ and numbered. With the artist’s personal seal. On the reverse, a detailed typographic text providing information on the work’s details, technique and edition. – Slight brown staining in the margins. Isolated instances of minimal wear to the edges. Overall in very good condition. A magnificent print of exceptional technical quality, with brilliant colour effects and elaborately executed metal foil embossing. Koschatzky, Work No. 860. – One of 10,002 copies. With a stamped correction to the print run. - Each bearing the embossed stamp: ‘Printed in Venice by Claudio and Giuseppe Barbatonter, under the coordination of Alberto della Vecchia. Quattrifoglio workshop’. - Published by: Die Galerie, Offenbach am Main. - The print combines a four-colour photolithograph from zinc plates with a five-colour screen print, as well as three metal foil embossings in different colours. A characteristic feature of this edition is the ‘unique piece’ principle developed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser: during the printing process, colour and foil combinations were continuously varied, so that no two copies are entirely alike. Particularly noteworthy is the handwritten correction at the bottom edge, changing the print run—originally set at 10,001 copies—to 10,002 copies; the artist made this correction himself during the signing process to allow for an additional archive copy.
