Striptease-Triste. 1975. Cast bronze, with a gold-brown patina. 37.5 x 12.8 x 8.5 cm. Signed and numbered. – In very good overall condition; excellent casting with an effective patina.

Cast by Gernot Eichler, Eppingen-Mühlbach. - In his body of work, Alfred Hrdlicka often addresses the stories of suffering endured by the oppressed and the outcasts. The Austrian artist, who studied sculpture under Fritz Wotruba at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in the 1950s, formulated the motto “Flesh = Art” and distinguished between “lustful flesh” and “tormented flesh”. For him, art fulfils its fundamental function solely by revealing human beings in their two physical states. This bronze sculpture was created shortly after this guiding principle was developed.
