Signed, numbered and labelled on the reverse, with typographic details of the work and the copyright stamp. Partially mounted on a backing board, set within a passe-partout and framed under glass. - Corners very slightly bumped. Overall in good condition. Magnificent print, reworked in the signature colour red with expressive colouring.
The photograph documents the teaching event that took place on 3 October 2000 in Milan at the Studio d’Arte Cannaviello for two hours. Hermann Nitsch’s work was influenced by Greek tragedy, German Expressionism, French Symbolism and the Surrealists. He achieved the intensity of his works by expanding into the realm of physical and sensory experience, engaging all the senses through the use of substances, bodies and objects with powerful sensory qualities. This is counterbalanced by the reduction of the means of expression in the orgiastic actions to their most primordial form – language becomes a scream, music becomes noise, painting becomes the spilling of paint, words become deeds, and representation becomes material. Thematically, his central figures are drawn from religions and myths, reflecting life itself – birth, life, death, rebirth.
