Description
Informel Tàpies, Antoni Untitled, from: Suite 63 x 90. 1980. Colour lithograph on vellum. 63.1 x 88.3 cm (63.5 x 89.7 cm). Signed, inscribed ‘per il poetá’, numbered and with sheet number. – Very isolated, barely visible handling marks; edges slightly yellowed; reverse slightly browned; overall in very good condition and exceptionally fine. A magnificent, high-contrast and wonderfully experimental print of the expressively composed design with an extremely narrow margin. Galfetti 767. – One of only 5 rare proofs for the artist, predating any print run. - Sheet 1 from the 10-part portfolio “Suite 63 x 90”. - Printed by Erker-Presse, St. Gallen. - Published by the same, bearing its blind-stamped mark. - In a bold, expressive style, Tàpies sets the forms against a light background, creating a dynamic interplay between abstraction and figuration. The sweeping, expressive strokes resemble calligraphic marks and suggest movement and spontaneity. Part of the multi-part portfolio “Suite 63 x 90”, in this sheet Tàpies explores the combination of gestural drawing with experimental printmaking, encouraging the viewer to draw parallels between the formal and the informal, as well as between lightness and heaviness.
