Dahmen, Karl Fred
Tele-Landschaft. 1968. Mixed-media collage featuring green-painted fabric over padding in a wooden box painted green, with a glass front. 24.5 x 28.5 cm. Signed in the centre at the bottom (somewhat faint). Additionally signed, dated and titled on the reverse, and marked with a directional arrow. – With a light dusting on the surface. Overall, apparently very well preserved. A work characterised by intense colour and strong expressiveness.
The work is registered with Thomas Weber, Karl Fred Dahmen Archive, Cologne. – In 1967, Karl Fred Dahmen was appointed head of a painting class at the Munich Academy and moved his work and family life to the Chiemgau region. His artistic engagement with his new surroundings marked the beginning of a significant creative phase. “The vast landscape, dominated by lush green in summer and reduced to almost pure black and white in the cold, misty winters, takes on unexpected significance in Dahmen’s work.” (K.F. Dahmen Catalogue Raisonné of Prints 1956–1978, p. 20). He produced works in which the artist sought not a naturalistic depiction of the landscape, but a deeper, subjective understanding: through his individual perspective, Dahmen created autonomous visual worlds that followed their own internal logic.
