Description
International Post-war
Karskaya, Ida
4 works. 1960s. Each in mixed media with acrylic and watercolour on vellum. 9 x 17.7 cm to 13 x 12.5 cm. Each signed; each with a typographic gallery label on the reverse of the frame. Each mounted on a backing board and framed under glass; 3 unopened. – Overall, apparently in very good condition.
These small-format works are characteristic of Ida Karaskaya’s oeuvre from the 1960s, a period in which the technique of collage became increasingly important to the artist. The Russian artist left her homeland at the age of 17 to study medicine in Ghent and later in Paris at her parents’ request. Initially in secret, and later more openly, she turned increasingly to art and eventually became one of the most significant French artists of the Second Paris School, as well as an important representative of the Informel art movement of the 1950s.
