Figure in amore. 1997. Colour silkscreen on Graphia-Similijapan (with watermark). 74 x 52.8 cm (78 x 59.5 cm). Signed and numbered. - A crease approx. 1 cm long on the upper edge; very slight rubbing on the reverse. Overall, very good condition. A magnificent, richly coloured and velvety print with a margin, featuring the artist’s signature margin on all sides.
One of 75 copies. - Sandro Chia is one of the most important figures of Italian postmodernism and a leading figure of the Transavantgarde. After studying at the Istituto d’Arte in Florence and at the Accademia di Belle Arti, he undertook numerous journeys throughout Europe, as well as to India and Turkey, which had a lasting influence on his artistic work. In his works, Chia combines art-historical references to Cubism, Futurism and Fauvism with an expressive visual language. This work is characteristic of the Italian artist’s figures, which are mostly reminiscent of antiquity, powerfully modelled and rendered in vibrant colours.
