Description
International Postwar Wyller, Sverre Untitled. 1983. Oil on canvas. 67 x 75 cm. Signed, dated and titled on the reverse, with further details of the work. - A few small, isolated flaking areas; some wear to the edges; partial, barely noticeable loss of paint in the top left corner. Overall, very good condition. Sverre Wyller is one of the most significant Norwegian painters of his generation. This work was created at the intersection of Northern European Romanticism and the influences of contemporary abstraction. Using dense, impasto layers of paint, he creates hermetic, contemplative pictorial spaces which, in their gestural quality and techniques such as incising and smudging, are reminiscent of Per Kirkeby, yet form an independent, poetic body of work.
