Kahnweiler 26. – Monod 9689. – Rauch 102. – Arnold 2409. – Anthonioz, 106. – Comprising 11 colour lithographs based on gouaches by Juan Gris. - Printed by Mourlot, Paris. - The portfolio *Au Soleil du Plafond* stems from a collaboration between Juan Gris and the poet Pierre Reverdy, which was conceived as early as 1925 but could not be realised until 1955. Gris died in 1927, having produced only ten of the twenty gouaches originally planned by that time – the final work therefore required a new concept for the illustrations of the twenty poems. The eleventh lithograph is based on the original gouache that Juan Gris produced for this project whilst he was still alive and which he kindly dedicated to Henriette Reverdy. The work is entitled *Moulin à café, tasse verte sur une table* (1915) and is now in the collection of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (inventory number DE01558). It was executed in charcoal, pencil and gouache on paper. In its composition, the suite combines the formal clarity and geometric rigour of Juan Gris’s late work with Reverdy’s poetic language. With its delayed publication and reduced number of illustrations, the portfolio ranks among the few major Cubist ‘Livre d’artiste’ projects and illustrates how Gris’s visionary planning continued to have an impact even after his death.
