Miró, Joan
Partie de Campagne V. 1967. Aquatint and etching in colour on vellum. 58.5 x 92.5 cm (74.5 x 104 cm). Signed, titled and marked ‘H.C.’. Mounted on backing paper beneath the passe-partout in places. – Lower right-hand corner slightly bumped and creased, edges partly slightly creased, with faint ink bleed-through on the reverse. Overall very good condition. A magnificent print with full margins and a clearly defined plate edge; the colour is rich and fresh.
Lelong 434. – Hors commerce, not part of the edition. - Printed and published by Maeght, Paris 1967. - This large-format sheet forms part of Miró’s five-part series *Partie de Campagne*, one of the central groups of prints from his mature creative period. The title evokes a playful lightness which, combined with the surrealist depth characteristic of his work, forms a poetic unity of sky, earth and animated beings. With characteristic mastery, Miró combines areas of colour in luminous green and intense orange-red with his unmistakable repertoire of calligraphic marks, which move across the sheet like dream creatures. The aquatint technique enables the painterly immediacy and texture in the areas of colour that characterise Miró’s prints from this period.
