Pfeiffer, Henri
Composition in Shades of Red. 1929. Mixed media with watercolour on canvas. 83 x 69.5 cm. Framed, unopened. Monogrammed and dated. – Overall in very good condition, with vibrant colours.
Pfeiffer studied at the Bauhaus in Weimar in the mid-1920s and later became a pupil of Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee in Dessau. From an early age, the German artist developed an interest in the chemical composition of pigments and later engaged intensively with the theory of colour. In the 1950s, he published the work *L’harmonie des Couleurs. Cours Théorique et Pratique’ on this subject and confined his artistic practice almost exclusively to the medium of watercolour. This work on canvas is characteristic of his oeuvre, which explores the harmonious arrangement of colours on the canvas.
